Through deeps valleys and past soaring cliffs, beyond dense forests and treacherous terrain, vast oceans and deadly wastelands; there lies a castle. It’s grandeur and magnificence is like something out of a fairy tale. Spiralling towers, vast courtyards and corridors filled with mystery. The promise of thrill and adventure lies around every corner and stairwell. It seems a fitting location; where heroes and villains alike may do battle in a fight for justice and a happy ending. However this is no childish fantasy. This is where the fairytale ends, and the happy endings cower under their beds.
“Welcome to Margedion Academy.” The voice echoes across the stone walls of the large hall. Despite the warm words, the woman's tone holds an icy quality. Stood atop a raised platform in the Great Hall, brilliant flames engulf her head in a heated inferno that tumbles down her back. She surveys the crowd; her eyes are golden hues that seem to burn cold; searing through those that meet her gaze.
Rigidly poised, side-by-side with hands clasped tight behind their backs the students stare up at the figure before them with a swirling mixture of terror, anger and curiosity. They watch the Headmistress’s every move, for fear that like a viper she may strike at any time. Her movements are like that of a predator; graceful, lithe and deliberate. Every action taken and word spoken seems precise and calculated, for maximum impact. The tension crackles through the room like lightning, with a silence so deafening the slightest noise causes many to flinch.
“This,” she says with a deliberate pause, “is the start of your great service.”
Anxious murmurs rise from the crowd but she silences them with a steely glare. “You have all been granted an honour most prestigious. To serve in the Lord’s Army, and atone for your sins.” Her gaze sweeps the hall, daring the students to speak out again. “This Academy shall train you, prepare you, ready you for what is to come. Here you shall face challenges and hardship greater than you have ever known. And because of your trials, your souls shall be purified and you will be saved. Isn’t that … nice.” Her elegant face contorts slightly, in a wrinkle of distaste.
Her hand sweeps outwards in a wide gesture towards the seven groups stood before her. “As I’m sure you have noticed, you have been divided into Factions, each one representing your sin. Be sure to acquaint yourself with your faction mates, as you may come to rely on them, and they on you.”
A slight smile on her face, she tilts her chin proudly. “And I, as you may have guessed, am Uriel, the Grand Headmistress of this Academy, the Archangel of Knowledge, and the absolute power in this school.” Her mouth pulls into a tiny smirk. “This, you would do well to remember.”
Her smirk disappears and her expression becomes impassive once more. “Any other information, you will find in your Student Handbook. Be sure to read and learn the contents, as offenders will be granted no leniency.”
“Now, your first official assignment as students of the Academy. There has been a minor disturbance." Her brow wrinkles in a small frown. "As you know, a demon appearing as large mass of void has appeared above us. I want it dealt with. I require ten student volunteers for this mission and two Generals to lead it. ”
Her nose is held aloft as she addresses the crowd. "Pravuil will be in charge of briefing the volunteers. He will tell you everything you need to know."
She spins on her heel, preparing to leave the stage when she suddenly halts. Zooming towards her and around her head, a small orb seems to levitate. Upon a closer examination it is revealed, rather disturbingly, to be a floating eye. They seem to exchange some silent communication, before her expression becomes one of distaste and she turns back to the students. "I am reminded, that as an added incentive, those that volunteer and are successful will be rewarded ... with a key."
She remains still for a moment before announcing, "That will be all. Dismissed."

Expedition 3: Zagan
Days pass and the bright summer colours are repainted with the golden flares of autumn; almost like the blazing fire that Uriel so proudly wears like a veil. The headmistress stands by the window of her study, unmoving save for the soft flicker of her flaming hair.
A sound of flapping of wings stirs her from her quiescent state. She turns around only to find white feathers, dancing in the air before fading into nothingness, and a small roll of parchment, sealed with gold. She reaches out and unrolls the message, her snakelike eyes following the words from start until end, her lips curving into an almost invisible smirk. The paper abruptly li
